Hunter Mode
After beating Rain World with either Survivor or Monk, your save file will now have the Hunter character available. While playing as Hunter, besides the stat changes, there are two main mechanical differences which will be relevant for this note:
- Hunter has a 19 cycle limit. After 20 cycles have passed, death is now permanent and each survived cycle becomes exponentially more difficult to survive.
- Everything done during the game is being tracked to tally up a score at the end of the playthrough. The main way to to raise this score is by killing creatures and getting Passages.
While playing Hunter Mode, there are also 3 story objectives that can be completed during a run. The first two are related to the green neuron that you start the game with. Delivering the neuron to FIve Pebbles and to Looks to the Moon will complete the "Helped Pebbles" and "Delivered Payload", repsectively. The third and last one is simply ascending at the end of the run, which will complete the "Ascended" objective. Completing the objectives is optional, however they will contribute to the final score.
The same can be said about Passages: in-game achievements that can be completed during a run and, in Hunter Mode, multiply the player's score. These Passages are the same ones that can be obtained in the Survivor and Monk game modes.
Finally, a playthrough of the Hunter Mode is generally referred to as a Score Run. Even though Hunter can be played with the same dynamics as Survivor, these notes will focus on the concept of playing a run while attempting to get the maximum possible score at the end of the run.
Much like any kind of competition, to submit a Score Run to the official leaderboard, there are some rules that should be followed during gameplay. The game can be freely played without following these rules, however doing so will disqualify a run from being added to the leaderboards.
